The building is based on a winning entry in a competition arranged by Rauma city in 1980. A very important thing in the design is to make the townscape whole. The architectural values of the old, protected buildings are respected and used to create a meaningful dialogue between old and new.
The City Hall embraces a new public square and at the same time it also forms a small park together with the old wooden buildings along the Valtakatu. The building is a natural continuation of the adjacent park areas outside the site.
