A new type of a park city, Suurpelto, is being built in Espoo near Helsinki. VVO chose our office as one of the designers for the starting block. We were also given the task of reconciling the projects.
Our commission consisted of three tower blocks and a parking facility underneath them. To improve the sense of community the playground and common outdoor spaces were situated by the route connecting the buildings, alongside the entrance squares of the residential buildings.
Each one of the residential buildings consists of two narrow masses that are bound together by a piercing stairwell. This shape creates bright apartments that are open to several directions. The spatial layouts in the bigger apartments are transformable: varying living room - dining room - kitchen combinations will correspond to the individual needs of living. Ground floor apartments have got their own yards, whereas the apartments upper floors have got spacious balconies.
Building work was finished in the spring of 2012.
