Malmi schoolcampus
The protected school building designed by Toivo Salervo and completed in 1927 is undergoing renovation, and an extension is being added to the building for Malmi elementary education and early childhood education.
In the spring of 2023, the City of Helsinki organized a streamlined architectural competition for its framework agreement partners for the design of a comprehensive school campus. Together with the Architecture and Design Studio Talli, our competition proposal was selected as the winner, and the project’s preliminary design phase was initiated in the early autumn of 2023.
The starting point for the design is to create a school campus serving the entire district, following the principle of a unified learning path. This concept brings together facilities for learners of different ages, from early childhood education to upper secondary school, and offers spaces for community use outside of school hours.
The design must consider the delicate integration of the protected building into the campus while ensuring a spatially coherent whole and fitting the campus into the context of a culturally valuable park area on the edge of the site.
